The 3rd Yesan Market Samguk Festival is set to be held along Baek Jong-won Gukbap Street inside Yesan Traditional Market for 7 days from Oct. 18 to the 24. It will offer visitors a chance to enjoy “samguk (three ‘guk’),” which are chrysanthemum (gukhwa) and delicious noodles (guksu) and rice soup (gukbap) this fall.
At Yesan Market Samguk Festival, around 14,000 chrysanthemums will be on display, reminding visitors of the beauty of the fall season. Visitors can also try the noodles and rice soup that Yesan is well known for.
The festival will begin with a parade wishing for peace in celebration of the 1,100th anniversary of the naming of Yesan, which will be followed by an opening ceremony. Lee Hong-ryeol’s This Is the Local Era will be filmed and broadcast live at the event, and there will also be a drone light show and the 3rd Chungnam Jumma Singing Contest.
On Oct. 19, the National Folk Song Singing Contest organized by the Korean Traditional Folk Song Association, Our Sound Hanmadang Nori by Lee Chun-hee, a master vocalist of Gyeonggi folk songs, performances by local bands, the 1,100 Years of Yesan: Music Rock Festival, and fireworks show will be held to delight the eyes and ears of visitors.
On the following day, Gugak Hanmadang with performances by the members of the Korean Traditional Music Association, Cultural Market Concert organized to commemorate the 1,100th anniversary of the naming of Yesan, and the Adults’ Han Performance will be held. Performances and shows scheduled for Oct. 21 including the children’s music, Hansel and Gretel, a comedy show called Baccus Dad’s Dalgona Show, busking performances, traditional Korean dance performances, and Nanta performance by Beodeuri Academy.
On the 22nd of October, there will be a magic and balloon art show for children, Baccus Dad’s Dalgona Show, a talk concert to promote awareness of people with disabilities, performances by local clubs, and Adults’ Han Performance. As for Oct. 23, there will be a percussions performance for children, Yesan School Broadcasting Festival for Youth Day, the 2nd Youth School Music Festival, and Youth Night DJ Dance Show.
The program for the last day of the festival consists of Encounters & Destiny by Hanuri Volunter Group, Chumchugo Broadcasting Dance, Youth Gogo Party for Seniors, 1,100 Years of Song of Hope, and a concert featuring Yesan Wind Orchestra. The festival will then come to a close with the closing ceremony and a fantastic fireworks show.
There will be various exhibitions taking place at the festival including an exhibition hosted by the Cultural School of the Yesan Cultural Center and a photography exhibition in Insa-dong. There will also be a wide range of activities and experiential programs such as making noodles, brewing and drinking chrysanthemum tea, and making traditional lanterns and accessories, and visitors will also get to try face painting, 3D pens and VR.
There will be all kinds of delicious food sold at the market, aside from noodles and rice soup. There will also be a booth to promote and sell local agricultural and livestock products.
During the festival period, a small cinematic event will take place under the title “Our Neighborhood’s Film Festival” with a total of 26 movies screened for free by Yesan Cinema.
A county official said, “We are making our very best effort to making sure that the 3rd Yesan Market Samguk Festival has a greater abundance of things to see, eat and enjoy than last time. Please take an interest in and pay a visit to the festival where you can enjoy the scent, flavor and beauty of the fall season.”
